KDP- Test (Part 2) Initial Impressions

So, the "book" (really, short story) is up- (link removed so as to discourage any purchases.)

My initial thoughts and impressions:
1. That was really fast! Less than 24 hours.
2. I don't know how to initiate an author page for the pen name I used, so I'll have to figure that out...
3. I tried to read a sample (via- look inside) and, initially, that feature didn't work. Then, when it did work the formatting was all wonky.
4. Formatting is a little wonky on the kindle too.

KDP- Test (Part 1)

KDP stands for Kindle Direct Publishing

I used to write short stories (another lifetime ago). I still have several just sitting on my computer, doing nothing, loitering actually.

Therefore, I decided to pilot KDP using one of my old short stories as a test.

Of note:
1. Formatting: I formatted the text myself. It is a rather short story and, therefore, wasn't anything to place into Kindle format after I read this book. This was a good test, though. Also, I'm not sure if the chapter headings are displaying correctly. I'll need to troubleshoot this a bit more.
2. Cover Art: I didn't want to settle for complete crap (for the cover) but I also didn't want to actually pay for it. So, I spent 4 hours in the wee morning and designed/carved stamps/tried to remember how to use photoshop and- voila! I made a (mediocre) cover

3. Author: Something nice about KDP is that you can use a pen name (even though the account is under your name). This step is done after you establish your KDP account. Since this isn't one of my best and is just a test I couldn't help but use a pen name... don't judge me!!
4. KDP Select: So, basically this means you agree to allow your book to be distributed/sold exclusively by Amazon for 90days (to be renewed or not every 90days). This was a no brainer for me because I'm not publishing this anywhere else. For much better information on this (than my post) I suggest reading these blog posts:  this one and this one

The book was under review (for 6 hours) and is now in status "publishing" (for the last 6 hours). I'm looking forward to downloading it to my kindle and taking it for a test drive.
